a collection of haikus

The Daily Prompt has inspired me to press “Publish” on some of the haikus I wrote today. In fact, I’m always scribbling down haikus, as they are undoubtedly my favourite form of poetry (I may even like writing them more than novels!)

They focus on an average life with as few words as possible. It also helps I adore succinctness (a quality I’m trying to improve myself) so haikus are the perfect practice for such a trait. I definitely encourage other writers, regardless of their poetry writing skills, to try their best hand.

Below are four poems I’ve written today, and the fifth is a previous poem I wrote (along with an introduction that accompanies it) as an added bonus.

lonely fact of life
people go, memories stay;
wishing vice versa

dreamers light the sky
as precious untold stories
glow among darkness

painted silhouette
underneath harvested moon
sobbing for freedom

bittersweet endings
indicate new beginnings
branching from the past

THE SIXTH POEM:

I had written this recently as part of a competition, but didn’t notice it was already over. (Oops) Anyway, this was the haiku I had finally produced after a lot of rewriting –who knew a single three-sentence poem can take that much work? Hope you like it!

friendly summer breeze
our bright eyes fill with laughter
the days never cease

This has been such a fun challenge! Please link me to your haikus (regardless of whether you wrote them specifically for this challenge or not). I absolutely adore reading them. 😀

  1. Ramisa, I too, love succinctness and the short poetry form. Maybe it’s because I talk to much in my everyday life that I like short and sweet on paper. I enjoyed your silhouettes of a rich life and could tell you labored over the right word choices be causes of their depth. Thanks for the ping back to my place at angieinspired.

  2. Your haiku about the harvested moon really took me back to what haiku is all about- brief storytelling using very clipped poetry and the awe of nature. All of your haikus were great actually!
